Sunway University is proud to announce that it has been selected as a finalist for the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2025! The University has been selected as 1 of 8 finalists in the 'Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year' category, for the project titled 'S.U.S.T.A.I.N. Now for a Better Tomorrow: Sunway University's Sustainability-focused Transformative, Accessible, Immersive and Networked Teaching and Learning for Global Sustainable Development and Planetary Health strategy'. A summary of the project is given below:

Sunway University’s S.U.S.T.A.I.N. strategy nurtures holistic leaders equipped to address planetary health crises and drive sustainable development. By integrating values-driven education, technology-enhanced learning and real-world impact, the programme prepares graduates to lead in global sustainability efforts.

The S.U.S.T.A.I.N. programme consists of three core courses – Entrepreneurial Mindset and Skills (EMS), Integrity and Sustainable Development (ISD) and Community Service for Planetary-Health (CSPH) – all aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The Paradox of Theron (POT) game-based platform ensures scalable, experiential learning, and the ISD course reinforces ethical leadership through an efficient HyFlex model. The programme also engages students in real-world challenges, such as uplifting the Desa Mentari community, resulting in tangible local economic improvements.

The Planetary Health and Sustainability in the Tropics micro-credential has attracted global attention, with students from Harvard and Oxford praising its interdisciplinary, hands-on approach. Sunway University’s S.U.S.T.A.I.N. teaching strategy positions it as a leader in global sustainability education, nurturing future global change-makers
