NextGen Mobility & Smart City Simulation Workshop 2026
The Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI) successfully hosted the NextGen Mobility & Smart City Simulation Workshop on 8-9 October 2026 at Sunway University. The two-day workshop brought together researchers, industry experts, and strategic partners to explore advancements in digital twins, urban mobility, traffic modelling, GIS mapping, and smart city innovation.
The programme featured presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions by partners including Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), VinUniversity (Vietnam), CitySage, and Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM). Participants exchanged insights and international case studies on emerging technologies and data-driven approaches for sustainable urban development.
A key highlight of the workshop was the collaborative Penang Air Case Study, where participants worked together on traffic data integration, GIS mapping, and digital twin development. The hands-on sessions demonstrated how multidisciplinary collaboration can support evidence-based decision-making and future mobility planning.
The workshop concluded with a showcase of the developed solutions and discussions on future joint research opportunities. The event further strengthened collaborations between academia, industry, and research institutions, reaffirming a shared commitment to building smarter, more sustainable, and resilient cities.
FCRI extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, collaborators, and participants for their valuable contributions and active engagement throughout the workshop.
