The 11th International Conference on High Level Environmental Radiation Areas (ICHLERA-11) is scheduled to take place at Sunway University in Malaysia from October 28 to 30, 2024. The inaugural conference took place in Brazil in 1977, followed by one in India in 1981. Subsequently, the third conference, held in Iran in 1990, marked a pivotal moment with plans to establish the International Committee on High Level Natural Radiation Areas (IC-HLNRA). This committee aimed to systematically organize global conferences to deepen our comprehension of low-level natural radiation exposure and its health implications. Since then, the IC-HLNRA has successfully organized additional international conferences in collaboration with various countries including China (1996), Germany (2000), Japan (2004), India (2010), Czech Republic (2014), Japan again in 2018, and France in 2022. During the 8th ICHLNRA in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2014, the conference scope was broadened to encompass high-level environmental radiation areas, irrespective of their origin. This expansion included man-made sources, whether existing, planned, or arising from emergency exposure situations, with a special emphasis on human health effects, epidemiology, and societal impacts. Consequently, the conferences were renamed "High Level Environmental Radiation Areas" (ICHLERA).

Building upon the success of the previous gathering hosted at the University of Strasbourg, France, in 2022, Malaysia has been chosen as the destination for the 11th ICHLERA. Applied Physics and Radiation Technologies Group at CCDCU, School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University, in collaboration with the International Committee on High Level of Environmental Radiation Areas and Alypz Sdn. Bhd., extends a warm invitation to all participants. We await your valuable contributions to this prestigious event and encourage your active involvement throughout the conference at Sunway University. The overarching theme of the 11th ICHLERA is "Global Collaboration for Radiation Monitoring and Remediation," encompassing various scientific topics, as follows:

  • Novel Radiation Protection Philosophy & Concepts
  • Environmental Monitoring & Dose Assessment
  • Environmental Modelling for Radiation Protection
  • NORM & TENORM
  • High Level Natural Background Radiation Areas
  • Radon, Thoron & Decay Products Measurements
  • Radiobiological Effects, Epidemiology & Health Impacts
  • Risk Assessment from Low Dose Rate Chronic Exposures
  • Nuclear Power Plant Accidents & Risk Communication
  • Handling of Human Exposures and Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Control and Responsibilities
  • Radiation Emergency Medicine
  • Human Resource Development
  • Man-Made Sources

We look forward to your presence and participation in this in-person event.
