Sunway University Collaborates with Universities in China
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Expanding its horizons in collaboration with foreign universities, Sunway University recently entered into partnership with 2 universities, Huizhou University and Capital University of Economics and Business in China.
Professor Graeme Wilkinson, Vice-Chancellor, Sunway University, Malaysia and Professor Peng Yonghong, President and General Secretary of Huizhou University, Guangdong, China signed a Memorandum of Agreement to establish the Research Centre in Information Technology and International Collaborative Education.
The collaboration started with a visit from Sunway University to Huizhou in 2017, followed by a visit from the Huizhou University delegation in early 2018 to Sunway which resulted in both institutions agreeing on the establishment of a joint research centre which would focus on research collaboration, staff and student exchanges, post-graduate supervision, with the possibility of the inclusion for other areas of collaboration in the future.
Professor Peng Yonghong, President and General Secretary of Huizhou University said the academic collaboration between Chinese and Malaysian institutions is strategic as it will contribute to various international economic initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA). The research centre will be a platform to connect talent from Malaysia as well as South East Asia to the Greater Bay Area. The initiatives and efforts from both institutions will open up new opportunities for the advancement of both research and industry, particularly in the area of digital technology and industry revolution 4.0.
With the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Sunway University and Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB), the collaboration calls for an international educational partnership involving a 2+2 Dual Degree Programme in the field of Business Management at Beijing, China.
Two academics from Sunway University have taught short summer courses at CUEB, and also undertook the ground work for the 2+2 Dual Degree arrangement. The collaboration will strengthen both institutions in their objective toward internationalisation.
Professor Wang Chuansheng, Deputy President of CUEB said the collaboration will help develop an in-depth cultural understanding and knowledge exchanges between Malaysia, China and South East Asia.
Professor Wang Minghui, Director of the Faculty Committee, CUEB welcomed the key collaboration of the 2+2 Dual Degree Programme with Sunway University and expressed his desire to extend the collaboration to a wider scope involving joint research.
Amongst the delegates accompanying Professor Wilkinson to CUEB were Professor Yuka Fujimoto, Head of the Department of Management, Sunway University Business School and Dr Chong Kok Boon, Ambassador of Academic and Research Partnerships (Asia), Sunway University who engaged in a dialogue session with CUEB students regarding the 2+2 Dual Degree Programme.
Sunway University partners various universities around the world, the institutions include Harvard University and University of California, Berkeley, in the United States of America; University of Oxford; University of Cambridge and Lancaster University in the United Kingdom; and Eastern Institute of Technology and University of Waikato in New Zealand among others.
