879 Celebrate at Sunway University Graduation Ceremony

In July, 879 Sunway University graduates took to the stage to receive their scrolls in two sessions with the biggest cohort of 446 graduates from Sunway University Business School.

First valedictorian for the day’s session and the first from the School of Hospitality was Chai Jin Yie who graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Culinary Management. Celebrating the momentous occasion with Chai were his proud parents.

Also celebrating the occasion with family and friends was Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) Community scholar Sio Joo Xing who graduated with the Diploma in Information Technology. Sio will be continuing with his degree at Sunway University starting August. Amongst the graduates for the session was Beatrice Chin Hui Yi who graduated with the Diploma in Nursing and Tan Siu Yong who graduated with a BSc (Hons) Medical Biotechnology.

A total 21 graduates with outstanding results were awarded the Jeffrey Cheah Scholastic Award. The recipients from various disciplines under the Sunway University Business School, School of Arts, School of Hospitality, School of Mathematical Sciences, and School of Science and Technology received a RM2,000 cheque and certificate.

Avryl Ooi Wan Cheen who completed the BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance was valedictorian from the Sunway University Business School at the second session.

Attending the ceremony to celebrate Avryl’s milestone were her mother and sisters. Amongst the graduates for the second session were Chow Shenn Kuan who graduated with a BSc (Hons) Business Studies and Tan Wei Chee with a BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance.

Professor Andrew Atherton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University was present to deliver the Occasional Address and confer the University of Lancaster scrolls to the graduating students from the Communication, Computing, Information Systems, Psychology, Biological Sciences and Business disciplines for the honours degree programmes by Sunway University, validated by Lancaster University. Also present at the ceremony were Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO, Chancellor of Sunway University; Professor Tan Sri Datuk Deri Razman M Hashim, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Ramon Navaratnam, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lin See-Yan, Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, Pro-Chancellors of Sunway University; and Professor Graeme Wilkinson, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University and the academic senate.
