A Celebration of American Education at Sunway University
Students at Sunway University were treated to a day of all things American on campus in conjunction with their American Education Day. Through the celebration, students had the opportunity to gain insights on American education, especially the American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) at Sunway University.
Activities for the day included various dance and music performances by the ADTP students, a flashmob and game booths integrated with general knowledge of the United States.

“Through this celebration, our students also have the opportunity to display their talents, practise leadership skills and work as a team. This also encourages them to overcome their personal challenges and step out of their comfort zones, which will be traits much needed for them to succeed in the US,” said Dr Sim Tze Ying, Head of the Center for American Education, Sunway University.
United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir graced the celebration. Accompanied by Dr Lee Weng Keng, Chief Executive Officer of Education and Healthcare Division, Sunway Group; Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group; Professor Graeme Wilkinson, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University; and Professor Peter Heard, Provost of Sunway University, Ambassador Lakhdhir tour around the booths where students had the opportunity to meet and speak with her.

Samuel Ho Li Feng, an ADTP student majoring in Computer Sciences said, “It was an honour to represent the ADTP and to perform in front of the Ambassador.” Samuel was one of the performers for the country dance. According to Samuel, team work is important for the success of a performance, “All of us have different time tables and it was difficult to gather everyone for practise. However, all of us still make the effort.”
Students from SMK Tropicana, SMK Bandar Puchong 1 and SMK Bandar Utama also joined the celebration and participated in various workshops covering subjects which included Mathematics, Computing, Marketing, Chemistry and Communication, allowing them to gain a better understanding of American education. The workshops were conducted by Sunway University’s ADTP lecturers.
