Department of Biological Sciences is pleased to announce that Associate Professor Dr Shyamala and Dr Yow Yoon Yen received an external funding of SGD 8,910 from the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) for research on “Distribution of two highly invasive species of Pomacea in Peninsular Malaysia and potential effects on the species diversity of native gastropods”.  The research is to evaluate the range of environmental variables associated with Pomacea’s distribution as well as the species richness of native freshwater snails that play important ecological and economic roles in these ecosystems. This study will fill an important knowledge gap of the diversity of this ecologically and economically important group of invertebrates, and provide information of vital importance to the management Malaysia’s natural and managed wetlands.
