School of Hospitality Chefs Aid Celebrity Chefs to Cook Up a Culinary Storm
Recently, Sunway University’s School of Hospitality was an essential component and backdrop to the Fox Networks Group Asia (FNGA) cooking show “Celebrity Chef: East vs West” which features Hong Kong celebrity star, Nicholas Tse, and Canadian celebrity chef, David Rocco.
Airing on Fox Life, Fox+ and Nat Geo People, the five-part original series has these two celebrity chefs travelling to different cities around Asia. They then learn about the city, its food, its culture and prepare local dishes handpicked by a local Chef, pitting their differing culinary skills to a fiery test.
The School of Hospitality at Sunway University is proud to be a part of the series. Shot in Sunway University, the final part featured not one but three from the School of Hospitality (SOH) - Chef Chong Wei Tzeh, Chef Queeny Cheong Peg Gie and Kelvin Lau, who graduated early this year with the BSc (Hons) in Culinary Management. They were placed in teams to assist the two celebrity chefs.
Local chef, Chef Nur Amirah Haji Mazlan, also from the School of Hospitality was tasked to demonstrate the cooking method of several dishes before the two celebrity chefs started their culinary battle. The blindfolded celebrity chefs had to taste the dishes and were then tasked to create their own version of the dishes.
Chef Chong was placed into Chef Nicholas Tse’s team while both Chef Queeny and Kelvin were placed in Chef David Rocco’s team. An opportunity of a lifetime for the four of them, they not only assisted the celebrity chefs but were an integral part of the filming process of this international cooking show.
The finale of Celebrity Chef: East vs West was aired on Sunday, 22 April 2018 at 9pm on FOX Life Asia, ASTRO.
