SUNWAY CITY, April 27, 2018 - The School of Hospitality (SOH), Sunway University successfully launched its 2018 Research Seminar Series on Friday, 27th April 2018. This seminar programme was officiated by Professor Marcus Lee Stephenson, Dean of School of Hospitality, who opened the series and emphasized the crucial importance of research seminars in stimulating research and scholarship.

"The intention of the seminar programme is to closely reflect the academic nature and scholastic objectives of the School of Hospitality, as well as strengthen collaborative ties with other higher education establishments. The programme is part of SOH’s commitment to strive for research excellence. Faculty members and academicians from various institutions have the opportunity to exchange research expertise and ideas”, explained Professor Stephenson

Throughout this series, leading academics and distinguished guest speakers, as well as faculty staff members, will be sharing their current trends and developments in the field of tourism, hospitality, events and culinary arts. This series also enables researchers to keep track of the recent theoretical and methodological advances in the field. The Ritz Carlton and JW Marriot Kuala Lumpur are sponsoring the 2018 series.

“The launch of this seminar series is a milestone in the School’s history and it opens the door for our researchers to showcase their research and foster learning. At the same time, it will motivate them and others in pursuing and conducting research”, said Dr Daisy Gayathri Kanagasapapathy, Chair of Research and Enterprise Committee.

For this inaugural event, Dr Daniel Chong began with the presentation entitled: “Your Loyalty is Rewarded: An Examination of Hotel Loyalty Programmes in Malaysia”. He spoke on the role of hotel loyalty programmes in the global market and his study of the current state of satisfaction, perception and preference of hotel loyalty programmes among leisure and business travellers in Malaysia. He found that Malaysian consumers were overall rather satisfied with the current hotel loyalty programmes, particularly as satisfaction levels largely concern reward value and timing.
