POSITIVE ME++
Recently, Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers organised a POSITIVE ME++ event during the end of March and early April.
Often in our day-to-day routines, we are struck by negative thoughts and are drawn to them. In the long run, negative thinking gradually becomes a habit and it has been the main cause for many mental health issues in society. Therefore, for this event, Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers set the theme as “POSITIVITY” in order to counter negative thoughts we regularly turn to. The event was inspired by the Positivity campaign held in 2018 and aimed to instill and spread positivity around the campus to rekindle positive energy in students.
The event was divided into Part I and Part II. Part I included writing positive quotes on the our Positivity tree and posting positive pictures for our social media challenge. Besides that, a collection of hand-made stress balls attracted participants to Part I of the Positive Me++ event.
The main part of the event was Part II which took place on the 1st & 2nd April from 12pm to 5pm at the Art Gallery. There were 7 station games set up at the Art Gallery and each of them corresponded to a “key to positivity”. The 7 keys of positivity included:
1. Use positive self-talk.
2. Use positive visualization.
3. Surround yourself with positive people.
4. Consume positive mental food.
5. Practice positive training and development.
6. Practice positive health habits.
7. Have positive expectations.
Alongside the station games, every participant who completed all the 7 stations was entitled to an entry into our lucky draw and some lucky few managed to take home some worthy souvenirs!
Overall, Positive Me++ concluded with huge success and we, at Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers, sincerely hope this event managed to instill a positive mindset into participants and encourage them to move on from negativity in life.
Thank you to all participants, volunteers and clubs that helped to promote our event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
