Sporting Event by the Diploma in Events Management Students

It’s in the basket, and a score! The students of Diploma in Events Management (DEM) recently organised a vigorous two-day 3v3 Basketball Tournament event. This tournament is held at the Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) Stadium located at the centre of Kuala Lumpur. This event saw a great turnout where 40 basketball teams signed up is vying for cash prizes totally up to RM2900.

Under the guidance of Ms Belinda Fong, subject lecturer and event advisor, the students learnt the fundamentals of event planning, organising, staging and evaluating within the capacity of Events Operations. In addition to this, they developed the skills of being critical and creative in managing events, secure both cash and product sponsorships, create promotional materials as well as handle media relations and marketing strategies. Proceeds of RM2000 were raised and channelled to House of Joy, a social care centre for orphanages, nursing homes and drug rehabilitation centre.

Ms Belinda Fong applauded students saying that, “I am extremely proud of the students for a job well done, as all of them had no prior experience in managing events, especially for one with such magnitude. It was a challenge and a good learning experience for the DEM students as they worked hard to meet the requirements of the stakeholders, while trying to keep true to their objective in providing participants with an unforgettable experience. I also believe that this experience has drawn the team members closer to each other, creating friendships that will last a lifetime.”
