Congratulations to the team comprising four BSc (Hons) Conventions and Events Management students: Moh Jing Yi, Boo Su Ting, Lee Lit Thung and Jackson Lim from the School of Hospitality and Service Management at Sunway University who will be representing Malaysia at the AFECA Asia MICE Youth Challenge 2022.
The lead coach of the team who is also a Senior Teaching Fellow, Ms Hairani M Nur mentioned that “This challenging industry-driven competition had to be completed within a very limited time, while at the same time students had to manage the pressures of submitting assessments.
So, kudos to the team who took up the challenge and excelled at this national competition. We are working towards a similar success at the Asia level.” Ms Hairani would also like to extend a word of thanks to the events lecturers of the School including Ms Ng Siew Cheng, Ms Suhaini Ibrahim, Ms Belinda Fong, Ms Farah Atiqah and Dr Teh Pek Yen for providing invaluable advice which has led to the success of the team.
At this competition, the competing teams are required to present and pitch a creative yet unique business event idea in a six-minute time frame. Some of the judging criteria include the viability of the idea as well as its marketing strategy. The competition saw a panel of judges comprising notable events industry practitioners.
The teams from Sunway University and Taylor’s University attained the title of national champion and will be representing Malaysia to compete at the Asia level next. Indeed, a big congratulations to everyone involved. Ms Hairani also emphasised that “Student competitions are essential for students’ character building and skills development. These competitions could also bring about innovation that could be transferred to actual industry practice, which is important for the advancement of the industry. At Sunway University, we look forward to moulding young minds that are motivated and creative.”
