Team from Casualty Actuarial Society Visits Sunway University

The School of Mathematical Sciences, Sunway University was delighted to host and welcome the team from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) - Mr Frank Chang, CAS President-elect, Mr Ronald T. Kozlowski, CAS Asia Ambassador, and Mr Aw Yong Chor Leong, Head of Actuarial of Labuan Reinsurance (L) Berhad, for a campus visit.

The CAS team had a fruitful discussion with the school’s academic team and in-house actuaries, Mr Nicholas Yeo and Ms Sophia Ch’ng Sok Heang FIA, CA(M), FCMA, CACD, on the landscape, opportunities, and support for the actuarial students’ community.

The insightful sharing session with students from the BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Studies programme covered the opportunities present within the general insurance (GI) industry, the innovative ideas on how GI is applicable to the evolving technology, the key roles of GI actuaries in tackling emerging risks, as well as the distinction between actuaries and data scientists in handling and interpreting data.
