Professor Shandre Mugan Thangavelu Honored with Royal Order for Contributions to Cambodia's Development

On January 31, 2023, the Kingdom of Cambodia's Ministry of Trade and Commerce awarded the Royal Order of Sowathara Commander to Professor Shandre Mugan Thangavelu, Head of the Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia at Sunway University, as recognition for his steadfast contributions to Cambodia's trade development efforts.

The award also recognizes the Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia and Sunway University at large for their unwavering and instrumental support of the Cambodian Ministry of Trade and Commerce in formulating and executing policies and related economic strategies.

The Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia (JCI) is an independent public policy think-tank based at Sunway University. Its mission is to develop efficient and equitable solutions to some of the region's most pressing development problems. JCI also houses the Master in Public Policy program, which aims to prepare students to develop practical solutions to real-world policy problems in the region through a multi-disciplinary focus on economics, quantitative analysis, and public policy management.
