SHSM Student Phan Ngoc Tuong Vi Speaks at MENA Climate Week 2023
Phan Ngoc Tuong Vi, a student from Sunway University's BSc (Hons) Culinary Management programme, delivered a talk on the challenges involved with sustainable development, at the MENA Climate Week 2023, held in Riyadh. Among the issues she shared was the rise of spontaneous tourism. According to Vi, spontaneous tourism leads to misinformation about cultures being shared, as well as a lack of safety and survival skills among tourists. This leads to accidents which portray a negative perception of the countries being visited. Being from Vietnam, Vi is concerned about how these issues will affect the Vietnamese tourism industry.
Among the solutions suggested by Vi was international cooperation in order to educate tourists on self-awareness, as well as reliable sources of information exchange. She hopes that this will help to prevent potential misunderstandings and unwanted incidents.
Sunway University applauds Vi for her courage to speak up on a global stage. She serves as an inspiration for all Sunwayians, and exemplifies the fact that each and every person can make a significant difference when it comes to issues they are passionate about. Once again, congrats to Vi, and the University hopes to see more great things from her.
