Sunway University Students Win Nationwide Blockchain Hackathon!

Students from the School of Engineering and Technology made Sunway University proud as they won the Nationwide Blockchain Hackathon. With over 400 applications received from Universities across Malaysia, 4 Sunway University students made it to the Top 5, winning a total of USD 650.  They achieved this feat with their project called "Mint Cycle", which aims to enhance the ESG footprint of companies in Malaysia by utilising a smart recycling machine. The world is gradually recognising Malaysia as a burgeoning hub for blockchain tech companies, and Sunway University's students are proving to be among the best in the country in this field.

The hackathon was co-organised by the Asia Pacific University's Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Club (APUBCC) and Superteam Malaysia Pop-up, powered by the Solana Foundation, with other strategic partners such as Jupiter Exchange.

In addition, team “Mint Cycle” will also represent Sunway University in the international blockchain hackathon, called Hyperdrive. This open-to-all, online hackathon requires the participants to upload a slide deck of their web3 idea to stand a chance to win up to USD 50,000 per project.  "Hyperdrive allows participants to dip into the USD 1 million prize pool and get access to the biggest Venture Capital firms on the planet. Most hackathon track winners get venture-funded," Says Henry Lee, Superteam Malaysia Pop-up's Tech Lead and Sunway iLabs Entrepreneur-In-Residence.
