Prune And Prep at Bukit Kiara
A group of volunteers from Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) participated in the Prune and Prep initiative at Bukit Kiara Park on 9 November 2024. The initiative focused on restoring natural habitats and preparing the land for reforestation to create a healthier ecosystem and was led by dedicated park caretakers who aim to transform Bukit Kiara into a lush forest canopy while combating climate change through carbon capture as part of their broader mission to preserve the park’s biodiversity and promote environmental awareness among the community.
After a warm welcome, volunteers attended a safety briefing and learned about the history of the area and its conservation mission.
Equipped with tools provided by the organisers, the five volunteers worked together on a designated plot of land. Their efforts focused on clearing vines, brushes, and small trees to prepare the area for future tree planting. Encountering a fallen log, they uncovered old wires and broken chairs as they progressed, necessitating caution during their work. Despite the labor-intensive tasks, being surrounded by nature kept their spirits high.
After 1.5 hours of clearing the area, including navigating gentle slopes and another fallen log, the group gathered for a final briefing. The team was proud to have significantly contributed to creating a space where new trees could grow and support the ecosystem.
Prune and Prep at Bukit Kiara was more than just a physical activity—it was an impactful demonstration of environmental stewardship and teamwork. Volunteers left with a sense of fulfillment and a renewed commitment to preserving our planet’s green spaces.
