SMS Introduces Pilot Community Project: Kampung Kira-Kira

Navigating the world can be a challenging process for most people and even more so for young children. Exposure to different disciplines at a young age is crucial in discovering one’s passions. Think about a moment from your youth when you felt a deep sense of excitement and enthusiasm. What was that one thing you were incredibly passionate about at that time?
For those at Sunway University's School of Mathematical Sciences, their passion is mathematics and youth empowerment.
In line with the commitments of Sunway Education to ensure sustainable quality education for both present and future generations of students, the School of Mathematical Sciences is proud to announce the recent launch of its student-run pilot community development program, Kampung Kira-Kira.
Taking place recently at Pusat Komuniti Majlis Bandar Subang Jaya (USJ 1), members of the School of Mathematical Sciences student body proactively formed a committee and independently put together a plan to empower young children within the local community. Engaging with 21 primary and secondary school students, they worked to introduce and nurture their passion for mathematics.
This was creatively achieved through the medium of games and problem-solving activities, such as Guni Guli Cabaran, Teka Teki Asah Minda, Bola Tin Seru and many more, which encompassed both mathematical puzzles and elements of traditional Malay games.
With a stellar reception of the Kampung Kira-Kira’s pilot, the committee and attendees both expressed keen interest in participating in community development programs, and the team is motivated to make continued efforts to increase its outreach. Once again, the School of Mathematics management would like to acknowledge Mohammad Arif Aiman Hisham, Ainul Mardhiah Mohd Harrizul, Nur Izah Najwa Othman, Chee Yean Wai, Ng Jia Wei, Pang Exian, Roy Yap Kar Seng and team for their exemplary effort.
