Shoebox Project

The Shoebox Project – formerly known as Shoebox Christmas – is an annual initiative organised by the Sunway Student Volunteers. The 2024 Shoebox Project was held as part of the ongoing Campus With A Conscience initiative and recently concluded successfully. Aiming to shed light on the power of compassion and generosity, as well as how we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need, this year’s beneficiaries included Orang Asli families, refugees, orphanages and NGO school students.

One of the highlights of the Shoebox Project was the distribution of shoeboxes containing water filters to Orang Asli families who do not have access to clean water. In the month of November, the shoeboxes filled with gifts were distributed to Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, The Peace Education Centre, Myanmar Refugee Children Learning Centre, Praise Emmanuel Home, Kampung Orang Asli Batu 12, Kampung Orang Asli Hulu Kuang and HOPE Selangor. Additionally, workshops were conducted for children at the NGO schools and orphanages. Furthermore, 31 water filters were donated to Kampung Orang Asli Hulu Kuang, Rawang, and another 29 were donated to Kampung Orang Asli Batu 12, Gombak. The team also built a mini library for Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home.

Generous sponsorships from Refiller Mobile, Student LIFE (Sunway Originals), Sunway Lagoon, Le Cordon Bleu, and Shiryo Marketing helped make this event possible. Not to forget media partners; SAYS, Sunway Echo Media and the various media affiliates who helped bring awareness to the plight of those in need.

Through the support of everyone on board, simple shoeboxes were transformed into life-changing gifts – spreading love and hope in ways that go far beyond material items and creating a lasting impact in the lives of those in need. This Campus With A Conscience initiative hopes to cultivate a world filled with love, kindness, and generosity together - one shoebox at a time.
