The Selangor Saring programme organised by the Subang Jaya ADUN’s office on 7 and 8 September 2024 offered free health screenings to Selangor residents, aiming to promote early detection of non-communicable diseases, cancer, eye health issues, and additional health services.

The screenings covered a wide range of important health concerns, including non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease. Participants were also offered cancer screenings for colorectal, prostate, cervical, and breast cancer. Eye health services focused on detecting vision impairment, glaucoma, and retina issues. Additionally, participants could access dental, hearing, and physiotherapy services.

The event began at 7:30 a.m. with a volunteer-briefing from Mr Alvin of Subang Sunway Beyond (SUSUBE). Volunteers were assigned to various health screening stations, assisting with queue management and participant coordination.

The morning session was bustling, particularly at the blood test and eye test stations, which attracted a large crowd, primarily senior citizens. A clever suggestion to redirect participants to less busy stations helped reduce waiting times, ensuring the screenings proceeded smoothly.

By the end of the day, around 500 participants had attended the event on Sunday and it was deemed a successful one by both the volunteers and organisers.

A highlight of the day was the visit from YB Michelle Ng at 3:00 pm, where volunteers had the opportunity to meet her, take a group photo, and discuss their role in supporting the community through such initiatives. The event not only provided essential health services but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration among volunteers and participants.
