The World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Leadership Program

A team of ten dedicated volunteers from Sunway Student Volunteers came together for a rewarding community outreach event at Desa Mentari on 6 November 2024. This initiative aimed to foster environmental sustainability while building connections with the local community.

The volunteers were responsible for transporting plants from the nursery to the field, preparing the soil by digging holes for planting, and organising segregated waste bins to emphasise sustainability.

One of the most meaningful roles the volunteers played was assisting participants in engaging with the children of Desa Mentari. As the participants were non-locals, the volunteers acted as intermediaries to bridge language and cultural gaps, ensuring smooth communication and inclusive interactions.

Following the planting activities, the team contributed to cleaning up the venue, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The event concluded on a high note, with the volunteers expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to connect with one another and contribute to a meaningful cause. The PIC’s friendly guidance and support ensured the day ran smoothly, leaving everyone with a sense of accomplishment and fond memories.

This outreach effort exemplified the spirit of teamwork, community care, and environmental consciousness, making it a valuable and enriching experience for all involved.
