Sunway University Hosts ASU's Julia Rosen!
Sunway University was thrilled to welcome Julia Rosen, Vice President of Global Academic Initiatives from Arizona State University (ASU). The agenda for the day included fruitful meetings for future collaborations, as well as an impactful Sunway Education Inclusive Leadership Series talk delivered by her.
Upon her arrival at Sunway University, Julia was given a personal introduction to the institution by Sunway University President, Professor Sibrandes Poppema. Besides sharing a brief recollection of the University’s history, Prof Sibrandes also gave her a sneak peek at Sunway’s future plans. She was fascinated by Sunway University’s community outreach programmes, as well as the University’s focus on graduate employability. Following this, Julia sat down for a meeting with Sunway University’s School of American Education for a deeper discussion on potential avenues of collaboration. To conclude her productive start to the day, she had lunch at Sunway University’s in-house restaurant, Athanor, which was also attended by the Sunway University leadership team.

After a short campus tour, the agenda continued with her presentation at the Sunway Education Inclusive Leadership Series. A crowd comprising both students and staff quickly filled the University’s rooftop terrace, where she delivered her talk on ASU. As the largest public university in the U.S. under a single administration, ASU focuses on providing education to students from all walks of life. This is proven by the fact that their first-generation student enrollment has nearly quadrupled since 2002, now representing 37% of their undergrad student body. She also highlighted ASU’s shared emphasis on employability, with the university ranked #2 in the U.S. for graduate employability among public universities.

Once the presentation was over, the session was opened to the floor. In an enthralling Q&A session moderated by University Provost Prof. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Julia keenly answered questions on what a collaboration between Sunway University and ASU would mean for students of both institutions.
The visit highlighted key opportunities for collaboration between Sunway University and Arizona State University, with a shared focus on community outreach, employability, and accessible education. Her talk underscored these shared values, marking an exciting step toward a stronger academic partnership between the two institutions and an exciting opportunity for students.
