Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Actuarial Studies

Overview

This programme draws together a variety of subjects that involve applying mathematical and statistical techniques in the financial services industry. It is designed to pave the way for students wishing to embark on a career as an actuary. Students will be prepared for professional exams leading to professional recognition as an actuary from a globally recognised professional actuarial body.

IFoA

Our programme is accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), UK. Students in our programme are eligible for exemptions from 6 IFoA papers, which are: CS1, CS2, CM1, CM2, CB1, and CB2.

SOA

Our program is also recognized by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and listed in SOA Universities & Colleges with Actuarial Programs - Advanced Curriculum (UCAP-AC). We cover six preliminary exams in the curriculum and provide three VEE exemptions.

CAS

Our programme has been recognized by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) as a Silver Level partner. We offer students comprehensive preparation for the CAS exams and a career in general insurance. Our students have the opportunity to earn up to five exam credits and we also equip them to take additional exams such as Exam 5 and MAS-II.

Actuarial Practice Course (APC) is conducted by our in-house actuary, Ms Sophia Ch’ng, Fellow of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries (UK).

Get ahead with this 3-month intensive hands-on course designed to prepare actuarial students to be employment-ready. It incorporates feedback from our practicing actuaries and industry practitioners in the course design. This course is conducted by our in-house actuary - Ms Sophia Ch’ng, focusing on current topics in the insurance industry.

In addition to the standard university subjects and assignments, students have the option to enrol in this course, offered exclusively to Sunway University’s actuarial students without additional charges.
