CAMPUS WITH A CONSCIENCE NOW INCLUDES YOU!
Building a Foundation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Education at Sunway Education Group
Sustainable development, as an interdisciplinary field, applies to the entire campus community, regardless of a person’s role, discipline, or course of study. To fulfill our promise as “a globally connected, responsible and forward-looking institution, dedicated to sustainability,” Sunway Education Group’s students and staff should all be able to exhibit at least a foundational understanding of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
To achieve this, the Human Resources (HR) Department and the MOHE-General Studies Department (GSD) in partnership with the SDG Academy and Campus with a Conscience team, have developed online modules and videos to introduce the SDGs as a framework, explain the interconnectedness of the issues that SDGs represent, and prompt learners to examine how their work and daily activities, contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda at home, on campus, within the community, and beyond.
Beginning 2022, the General Studies Department incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) modules in their teaching and learning content by providing two SDG videos from the SDG Academy for review during pre-class activities. Every student has to complete the compulsory SDG modules. Another 10 SDG videos are given to students for group discussions. Students are required to do critical analysis, write a report and make a presentation, which includes what they can implement or apply in their daily lives.
The SDGs Education aims to bring about the transformation that starts with each member of the campus community and systematically impact the people and environment around us to build a united and strong eco-system to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
