Sunway University is dedicated to championing sustainability efforts within and around the campus by instilling sustainable practices into the various aspects of the university experience such as ensuring high standards in sustainability research, sustainable work practices and sustainable consumption.
The University is in the pursuit of nurturing a community of socially and ecologically responsible individuals who inturn are creating an impact within the wider community within the broader context of sustainable cities and communities. Sunway University has assumed a pioneering role not only in managing resources but also in supporting the government in realising the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In accordance with that, The Sunway Smart Sustainable Campus Committee (SSCC) was set up in 2017 to brainstorm, innovate and make recommendations to guide campus-wide policies and initiatives.
Sunway Group-Wide Sustainability
In 2016, The Sunway Group formally incorporated the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) into their mission and as such sustainability became a core feature of Sunway Group’s corporate strategy. Demonstrating its commitment to drive change through innovation, the Sunway Group Sustainability Department has been set up to cascade and drive the Group’s climate and environment policy, operations and management of natural resources, energy, utilities, environment, biodiversity conservation, waste management initiatives, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of alternative resources to systematically and sustainably maximise system efficiency. Sunway Group Sustainability Department is the unit responsible for the sustainability strategy and sustainability management. The Department is advised by academic experts and researchers from Sunway University, particularly the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development.
Sunway Education Group is the education division of the Sunway Group. There are eight different educational institutions under the Sunway Education Group umbrella ranging from primary education right up to tertiary education as well as specialised learning centres. These include the Sunway International School, Sunway International School Sunway Iskandar, Sunway College Kuala Lumpur, Sunway College Johor Baru, Sunway College Ipoh, Sunway College Kuching, Sunway University, Sunway Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts and Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence. As the parent company, Sunway Group has developed the Group Sustainability policy that governs the standards adopted by all their 13 business units.
