In line with our commitment to improving energy efficiency and promoting clean energy, Sunway University, via the Sunway Institute For Global Strategy and Competitiveness, is involved in a project named "Non-Radioactive Rare Earth Elements Business Model (NR-REE)," which aims to develop a sustainable, planetary health-focused model for Malaysia's rare earth industry and to promote clean energy.  

Launched in 2022, it includes engagement sessions with government, industry, and NGOs to understand stakeholders' needs and challenges. This ongoing initiative is in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change.

ASM NR-REE

On 9 February 2023, the Academy of Science Malaysia held a stakeholder engagement validation workshop on the non-radioactive rare earth elements (NR-REE) business model. This workshop has obtained valuable input and feedback from stakeholders to finalise the proposed Business Model for NR-REE Industry.

The ASM Task Force presented their findings and inputs to stakeholders such as ministries, agencies, state governments, and NGOs. The task force will conclude the draft final report and submit it to the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry at the nearest time for review and comment.

Sunway University contributed its expertise and services to the "Handheld Radiation Survey Meter with Extendable Fiber Optic Probe" project, by Prof. David Andrew Bradley, Head of the Research Centre for Applied Physics & Radiation Technologies. Prof. Bradley and his team, Alypz Sdn. Bhd. - an industry partner, and Multimedia University, developed an innovative radioluminescence-based survey meter that offers potential advancements for industry applications. This project earned a Silver award in the "Protection of the Environment, Energy, Water, Wastewater, Sanitation & Green Technology" category at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2023.
