Energy Reduction Plan and Energy Waste Identification

SDGs 7.2.2, 7.2.4, and 7.2.5

This plan focuses on reducing energy consumption by identifying and addressing areas of energy wastage. It includes regular assessments to pinpoint inefficiencies, such as unnecessary lighting, outdated equipment, or excessive HVAC use. By targeting these sources of waste, implementing energy-efficient technologies, and promoting responsible energy practices, the plan aims to lower overall energy use while minimizing environmental impact and costs.

Increasing Energy Efficiency (Scope 2)

The University’s energy is supplied from both renewable and non-renewable sources. Purchased energy is supplied by the national power supplier – TNB and is derived from a mixture of hydroelectric and thermal plants. The plans to increase energy efficiency has been focused on reducing wastage and replacing non-efficient appliances at the earliest availability.

Energy Waste Identification

At Sunway University, we are highly committed to minimizing energy wastage across all campus buildings. Each year, we conduct Internal Energy Audits to pinpoint areas of energy loss and implement corrective actions to prevent future wastage. Below are some of the completed and ongoing audit findings, along with actions taken to address them:

The University also identified energy wastage through the computers and printers on campus. By 2023, all staff and laboratories computers are set to enter sleep or hibernation mode after a period of inactivity (such as meetings or short discussion), while printers will enter sleep mode and utilize less energy to heat up.
