Abstract
The world of higher education is fast evolving. Malaysia, given its aspirations to become a global education hub, has been keeping abreast of developments in the higher education sector and the numerous challenges confronting it. Global competition compels players to be fully conversant and competent to satisfy the needs of students and academics. One of the most challenging issues, however, is the financial sustainability of universities. The rising cost of delivering quality education impacts upon the affordability of tuition, and this impels many students around the world to re-evaluate the need for a university degree. In order to keep tuition at affordable levels and to be able to sustain high quality academics and fund research and innovation, endowments become ever more important. This seminar will suggest the best way forward in creating university endowments – a challenge that has yet to be seriously explored in Malaysia.
