Abstract
Two experienced economists will share their views and insights on Malaysia’s growth prospects and economic transformation challenges and opportunities. They will examine development issues such as the extent to which the country’s factor-driven and export-led growth has reached its limit in the challenging post-global crisis environment, its progress in transforming into an innovation and knowledge-driven economy and the spectre of being caught in the middle-income trap, thus prolonging its quest to be a high income and developed nation by 2020. These and other socio-political assessments will provide the context for discussing the country’s growth sustainability and the necessary structural reforms and economic transformation needed for the economy to reach escape velocity.
