Malaysia Salt Action Leadership Teamwork (MYSALT): Putting Policy into Action
The 1st of October 2024 marked a significant date in salt reduction and policy action in Malaysia as the Malaysian Society for World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (MyWASSH) organized the inaugural Malaysia Salt Action Leadership Teamwork (MYSALT) event.
The event was held at Dewan Pulasari, RUKA Building at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
In attendance were representatives from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Ministry of Education Malaysia, Sector of Prevention and Control of Non communicable diseases (NCDs), academic institutions (Sunway University; Universiti Malaya; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Universiti Putra Malaysia) Non-Governmental Organizations, Malaysian Society of Hypertension (MSH), Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Federation of Malaysia Manufacturers, Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), Ministry of Communication Malaysia, as well as food technologists, dieticians, and nutritionists alike.
The main objective of the meeting was to share and discuss evidence and recommendations for a policy on salt reduction among relevant stakeholders from Malaysia in a bid to engage them in a call for action to reduce salt intake in Malaysia.
