Diploma in Nursing

Overview

Sunway’s Diploma in Nursing combines both conventional and state-of-the-art technological applications. The programme caters for those with a passion for nurturing the well-being of others. Students in this programme will be able to learn core medical and nursing subjects such as anatomy and physiology of the human body, nursing care and related support subjects such as communication and counselling. The course ensures that students acquire skills in caring, nurturing and counselling, while also working as a team to provide holistic healthcare for all patients. This programme ensures that Sunway University nursing graduates emerge as knowledgeable, competent and caring professionals when taking care of those in need of assistance from a healthcare perspective. The theory and practical assessments are conducted for each semester throughout the 3-year programme. Students will be awarded with Sunway University and the Nursing Board of Malaysia Registration Certificates upon successfully passing the licensure examination.

Students who enrol in this program are eligible to apply for sponsorship from Sunway Medical Centre which offers exclusive sponsorship to students to pursue nursing studies at Sunway University, whereby employment is guaranteed upon graduation.

Entry Requirements

SPM
  • Pass with a minimum 5 credits (including Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics)
  • Candidates with a credit in either one (1) of the following: Science/Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Applied Science and credit in one (1) other relevant subject
O-Level
  • Pass with minimum 5 credits (including English, Mathematics, Science/Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Applied Science)
  • All local candidates who possess GCE ‘O’/’A’ Level MUST possess credit in Bahasa Melayu
Unified Examination Certificate
  • Pass with minimum 5 credits (including English, Mathematics, Science/Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Applied Science)
  • All local candidates who possess UEC MUST possess credit in Bahasa Melayu
Other Qualifications
  • Any other equivalent qualifications*
  • Applicant with no standard qualification will be considered on a case-to-case basis

*EQUIVALENT - refers to the overseas academic qualification obtained that is equivalent to SPM as approved by MQA

Specific Requirement

  • For International Students - able to converse in Bahasa Melayu

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS or equivalent 5.5
  • TOEFL 515 (paper based); 215 (computer based); 80 (Internet based)
  • SPM English Credit

Candidates Health Status

  • Applicants are required to attend an interview session and pass a medical check-up

The patient simulation laboratory allows nursing students to practice critical thinking, clinical decision making, psychomotor skills in a safe controlled environment without potential risk to a live patient.
