Free Drinking Water Provided

Free Drinking Water Provided

SDG 6.3.3

In conjunction with the launch of the #TheLastStraw campaign on 13th July 2018, the University has discontinued the sale of drinking water from single-use plastic bottles on campus from the campaign launch onwards.

The initiative introduced the free water refilling stations on campus to eliminate the use or purchase of plastic water bottles on campus and to ensure free drinking water is easily accessible to all individuals on campus including staff, students and visitors. The refilling stations can be found at the communal areas, such as the cafeterias, open spaces, nearby lecture halls and more. Water coolers were installed too at the corridors of buildings and is accessible at all hours.

The installation of water refilling stations on campus has resulted in the saving of a substantial number of plastic bottles, helping to drastically reduce plastic waste. By encouraging students, staff, and visitors to refill reusable bottles, the University has avoided the use of 122,000 single-use plastic bottles, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly campus.
