Wastewater Treatment
SDG 6.3.1
Sunway University is committed to be a responsible consumer of water, actively promoting conservation and sustainable practices in our daily lives. By that, the University is responsible in treating wastewater at early stage before it is discharged to the outsourced sewage plant of the national sewerage company, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The wastewater is filtered by removing the obvious solid wastes and is next handled for any toxics waste. The solid wastes is separated according to its type, generally Paper, Cans, Plastic and others and, they will be recycled accordingly on a monthly basis.
Once the early-stage filtering processes are done, the wastewater is further channeled to the IWK treatment plant for further treatment. IWK employs multiple stages of treatment to remove suspended solids and organic matter. Resultant effluent from domestic sewage treatment is low in solids and organic matter and meets the standards set by the Malaysian Environmental Quality Act 1974.
