Bee Jing Jie: From Scholar to Actuarial Professional
Bee Jing Jie, a former JPA scholar and graduate of the School of Mathematical Science in August 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Studies, exemplified academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, and a passion for the insurance industry during her time at Sunway University.
While studying at Sunway, Jing Jie actively participated in the Sunway University Chinese Club Society, which, although unrelated to her field of study, provided her with an opportunity to build diverse friendships and take a much-needed break from her academic pursuits.
Despite her busy schedule, Jing Jie dedicated time to prepare for the Society of Actuaries (SOA) actuarial exams and successfully passed the Probability and Financial Mathematics exams before graduating. This commitment paid off when she secured an internship as a Product & Pricing intern, granting her valuable real-world experience in the insurance industry and helping her gain clarity in her career aspirations.
Jing Jie also took advantage of workshops and company visits organized by Sunway Actuarial & Financial Excellence (SAFE) and the Malaysian Actuarial Student Association (MASA). These events enhanced her practical skills and deepened her understanding of her desired profession post-graduation.
Currently, Jing Jie serves as an Actuarial Professional (Pricing) at Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad, where she has been employed for nearly a year. As a recent graduate, she views her role as an opportunity for continuous learning and personal growth.
Jing Jie offers advice to current Sunway students, encouraging them to utilize the resources and support available on campus. She recommends attending career fairs and e-Career Talks, seeking resume critiques, and meeting with student career advisors. Furthermore, she emphasizes the importance of pursuing one's passions and remaining engaged in their chosen field of study.
The School takes pride in the accomplishments of its graduates and expresses gratitude for their contributions to the Sunway community. The school extends its well wishes to Jing Jie and all alumni for continued success in their future endeavors.
