Every graduate has a unique story, and we're always excited to celebrate the achievements of our alumni as they make their mark in the world.

Today, we're proud to shine the spotlight on Chua Wen Xuan, a Class of 2026 graduate from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Industrial Statistics (now known as the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Statistical Data Modelling), who has recently begun his career as a Research Analyst at the Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness.

Wen Xuan’s journey into the research field was built on a strong industry foundation. During his studies, he joined Quality Oracle Sdn. Bhd. as a Data Intern, where his passion and capabilities quickly earned him a promotion to Junior Data Analyst. Through these experiences, he strengthened his skills in R, SAS, Python, and Microsoft Excel, learning how to transform complex data into meaningful insights that support research, business decisions, and strategic planning.

What makes his story even more inspiring is that his growth wasn't limited to the classroom. As the Vice President of Sunway Statistical Modelling Professionals (STAMP), he actively contributed to the student community, leading initiatives, collaborating with fellow students, and nurturing a shared enthusiasm for statistics and data science. These experiences helped shape not only his technical abilities but also his confidence, leadership, and teamwork—qualities that continue to serve him well in his professional career.

A Graduate's Reflection

"This programme provided a strong foundation that goes well beyond the classroom. The curriculum's balance of statistical theory and hands-on practice with tools like R, SAS, Python, and Excel ensured that I wasn't just learning concepts in the abstract, but developing the ability to think critically, analyse problems rigorously, and draw valuable insights from data. This blend of technical proficiency and analytical thinking made the transition into industry feel natural rather than daunting.

Beyond academics, the programme fostered a strong sense of community through student-led initiatives like STAMP, where I had the opportunity to grow as a leader, collaborate with peers, and deepen my passion for data outside the classroom. Altogether, this programme didn't just teach statistics—it built a foundation that I will continue to build upon throughout my career, whether in industry or further studies."
