SMS Alumni Wins Sunway Young Outstanding Alumni Award 2024
We are proud to announce that Loh Wan Chin, a 2021 graduate from Sunway University’s School of Mathematical Sciences with First Class Honors in BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies, has been awarded the Sunway Young Outstanding Alumni Award 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional contributions to both the fintech industry and the Sunway community.
Since co-founding the Malaysian Youth Fintech Association in 2021, where she currently serves as Vice President, Wan Chin has made a significant impact by bridging the gap between fintech and youth communities. Under her leadership, the association has expanded from local partnerships to international collaborations, including notable events such as the Singapore Fintech Festival (2023 & 2024), Thailand Fintech Festival (2023), Blockchain Life Dubai (2024), and TOKEN 2049 Singapore. Through her work, Wan Chin has empowered youth to explore opportunities in the fintech sector, positioning the association as a key player both locally and abroad.
Her work has also earned her wider recognition, most notably with the "Rising Star of The Year" award at the Asia Fintech Awards 2024, held in Singapore. This award is a testament to her dedication and vision in supporting the fintech youth community. In collaboration with the Fintech Association of Malaysia, Wan Chin has also been instrumental in establishing university-based fintech societies, with the first affiliated society launching at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation. These initiatives are set to expand across Malaysian universities, including Sunway University.
Beyond her work with the Malaysian Youth Fintech Association, Wan Chin actively engages in speaking events at major conferences, covering topics such as youth development, AI, fintech, and insurtech. Her speaking engagements have taken her to platforms such as the 13th General Insurance and Takaful Actuarial Seminar (2024), World Finance Council Singapore (2024), ASEAN Financial Services Excellence & Transformation (2024), and Insurtech Insights Asia (2023) in Hong Kong, among others.
While she has accomplished much in the nonprofit sector, Wan Chin also holds a successful corporate role as a Senior Pricing System Developer at Allianz General Insurance Company Malaysia. Her dual achievements in both corporate and nonprofit spheres make her an inspiring figure for current students and alumni alike.
Wan Chin has maintained close ties with Sunway University, regularly returning to engage with students and faculty. In 2022, she participated as an alumni speaker, introducing the Actuarial Studies Course to secondary schools in Ipoh. A year later, she delivered an Insurtech talk through Sunway Actuarial & Financial Excellence (SAFE), where she also promoted actuarial internship opportunities at Allianz. In 2024, she returned to deliver a speech to the newly appointed committee of SUBS Students Helping Hands, an organisation she once led as president during her time at Sunway.
Receiving the Sunway Young Outstanding Alumni Award 2024 is deeply meaningful to Wan Chin, as it acknowledges both her hard work and dedication to empowering youth through fintech. She hopes this recognition will inspire fellow alumni to reconnect with the university, give back to the student community, and share their knowledge and experiences. By mentoring and guiding the next generation, she believes Sunway alumni can play a vital role in shaping the future of current students.
