Department of Engineering Staff Shine at Private Education Excellence Awards 2024

The Private Education Excellence Awards 2024  was hosted by the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 1 August 2024. At the event, the Dean of Sunway University’s School of Engineering and Technology, Professor Ir Denny Ng Kok Sum received the National Outstanding Researcher Award 2024. This award is given in recognition of the outstanding achievements of researchers from the private education sector. Professor Denny’s stellar contribution as a researcher is evident from his publications track records as he has published over 250 papers with an h-index of 49. In addition, he has also received more than RM5 million in research grants from national and international funding bodies. He is active in various professional bodies such as IChemE and serves as the Vice Chair of the Young Scientist Network – Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM). He is a fellow of IChemE, UK and The Higher Education Academy, UK, as well as a Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council UK and a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. 

During the same event, Dr Savier Kong from the Department of Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology received the Finalist Certificate in the National Outstanding Young Researcher category. Dr Savier is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and has published more than 60 journal articles in reputable Chemical Engineering journals with an h-index of 14. Dr Kong also serves as an Early Career Editorial Board Member for Separation and Purification Technology and is on the Advisory Editorial Board for the Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology. In the same ceremony, Ts Preedha Govind from Sunway College was recognised for her achievements as the National Outstanding Educator (College) 2024.
The Deputy Dean (Education) of the School of Engineering and Technology, Associate Professor Dr Selina Low Yeh Ching received the Finalist Certificate in the National Outstanding Educator (University) category. Associate Professor Dr Selina Low, who is also the Deputy Dean (Education) at the School of Engineering and Technology is a passionate educator who has been actively involved in initiatives to enhance student learning experiences within and beyond the classroom. She also serves as a trainer and has given presentations on teaching and learning topics ranging from technology-enhanced learning to the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom. Dr Low is also an active researcher in STEM education, computational statistics and statistical methods in data science.
 

The Private Education Excellence Awards 2024 highlighted the exceptional contributions of individuals in Malaysia's private education sector. Professor Ir Denny Ng Kok Sum received the National Outstanding Researcher Award for his impressive research achievements, while other notable figures, including Dr Savier Kong and Ts, Preedha Govind, were recognised for their significant roles in advancing education. Associate Professor Dr Selina Low Yeh Ching was also honoured for her dedication to enhancing student learning experiences. These accolades celebrate the profound impact of these educators and researchers on the educational landscape.
