Aelden Sin: Taking Communication to a National Level
Aelden Sin is a proud alumnus of the Sunway University School of Arts class of 2020. Ever since his childhood, Aelden had a fondness for interpersonal communication, always finding joy in engaging with others. Moreover, he started working from a very young age and was exposed early on to diverse environments, which further heightened his interest in communication. Eventually, this led him to Sunway University to enrol in the BA (Hons) in Communication programme. It was a deliberate choice for him to opt for a programme that prioritised refining these skills – one that he has never regretted.
There was never a dull moment in Aelden’s varsity experience, as the university’s “Most Happening Campus” tagline proved true with many extracurricular activities and events on campus. He thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant student life, where there were new on-campus activities every week. In the classroom, he credits the faculty members of the Department of Communication for contributing significantly to a fulfilling educational experience. “Special thanks to Ms Vijaya, Mr Lyon, Mr Kumar, Dr Pauline, Dr Padma, Ms Yesu, and Dr Izzati for being some of the nicest lecturers out there,”.
The BA (Hons) in Communication programme heavily emphasised decision-making and effective communication, which have been pivotal in Aelden's professional and personal development. Additionally, exposure to diverse demographics honed his ability to engage with individuals from varied backgrounds, cooperating well with anyone regardless of where they came from. Aelden cherishes the memories and camaraderie with his coursemates, who keep in touch to this day.
During his final semester, Aelden fondly remembers the Events Management module, led by Mr Kumar. The class challenged him to seize every opportunity and make his final semester count. This culminated in him being a major part of the organisation and successful execution of the first RAWK Commcert, which has since grown to become a legacy within the Events Management cohorts. Following Aelden’s cohort, two more ‘RAWK Commcert’s have since been organised – with many more to come!
Another notable module in the programme was Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the guidance of Ms Yesuselvi Manickam, which emerged as a cornerstone of Aelden's education. This subject underscored the significance of giving back to society to make the world a better place. Aelden’s developed a passion in helping those in need, spurring him on to continue contributing through volunteering in Sabah after graduating. “It feels good when the effort you put in can actually change someone’s life!” he reflects.
Post-graduation, securing employment proved seamless for Aelden. A month after completing his studies, he landed a job as a Marketing Executive for an international oil & gas company. Through this role, he celebrated a professional achievement: organising over 250 automotive workshops in just 2 months for an automotive event!
Now, Aelden celebrates his milestone achievement of becoming a Radio Announcer for HITZ FM Sabah, Malaysia’s premier English Radio Station which boasts a weekly listenership exceeding 400,000! He credits his Sunway University journey for preparing him for this role, empowering him to speak confidently and equipping him with the linguistic proficiency he needed despite English not being his primary language. In his role, each day presents new opportunities for growth and excitement, engaging in interviews and collaborations with artists from all over the world. “Safe to say, I love my job so much!” Aelden says, describing the job as a dream come true.
