Elevating Housekeeping: MAHIR and FHM 2023 Join Forces
The Malaysian Association of Housekeepers (MAHIR) is buzzing with anticipation in preparation for the Food Hotel Malaysia (FHM) 2023 to seize the opportunity to elevate the brand and bring the spotlight to the indispensable role of housekeeping in the hospitality industry. With determination and passion, it is with great eagerness to showcase the exceptional work of the members, illustrating the true value of housekeeping to an expansive and diverse audience. This is going to be an unforgettable experience, the skills, dedication, and expertise of housekeeping professionals are celebrated who ensure the highest standards of comfort and luxury for guests worldwide.
For too long, housekeeping has been viewed as a less desirable profession in the hotel industry, often seen as exhausting, offering limited career opportunities and lower income. The high turnover and labour shortage in housekeeping have spurred MAHIR to tackle this negative perception head-on. MAHIR is committed to support housekeepers and providing them with ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. From short courses to networking events, guest speaker series, and community service engagement, this is a dedicated effort to building a strong and engaged membership.
MAHIR also champions improved working conditions and benefits for housekeeping staff through open discussions with hotel housekeepers. By sharing their insights with hotel management and industry leaders, it can retain and attract top talent, fostering the continued growth of the hospitality industry.
The members are fired up about organising hospitality workshops and competitions, such as bed-making, towel art, cleaning teamwork, and bed decoration. These events not only allow housekeepers to showcase their talent but also emphasize the crucial role of housekeeping in the hospitality industry. It's a fantastic way to build the association and increase awareness among hotel leaders and society.
As hospitality housekeeping leaders, MAHIR is dedicated to shaping the industry’s future by raising awareness among the next generation. It’s participation with FHM 2023, alongside the collaboration with the Centre for Hospitality Innovation and Leadership (CHIL) at Sunway University's School of Hospitality and Service Management, presents an incredible opportunity to host a series of workshops and competitions, showcasing the members' skills and expertise.
MAHIR is also exploring the possibility of integrated learning for hospitality students, inspiring them to consider hotel housekeeping careers. Through hotel visits and one-day work exposure with experienced hotel housekeepers, students can gain invaluable insights into the daily operations of managing guest rooms.
These exciting events will not only spotlight the industry but also foster a platform for professionals to learn from one another and share their knowledge and experience. By uniting experts from various sectors, MAHIR can create a dynamic and supportive community that benefits everyone. The involvement with FHM 2023 and collaborations with leading hospitality centres like CHIL, aims to inspire more people to consider a career in housekeeping and the wider hospitality industry. By emphasising the importance of our work and showcasing the numerous opportunities available, it can attract more talented and dedicated professionals to the industry.
Embarking on this thrilling journey, MAHIR is eager to work with all partners in 2023 to showcase the best of the Malaysian hospitality industry to create a brighter future for the industry and inspire the next generation of housekeeping professionals!
