We are pleased to announce that the School of Mathematical Sciences, Sunway University has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), particularly with a focus on collaboration within the Faculty of Science. The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of what promises to be a mutually beneficial partnership, with discussions yielding promising outcomes for both institutions.

Education Initiatives:

One of the ongoing discussions with UTS revolves around establishing a pathway for students enrolled in our one-year Master of Applied Mathematics (MAM) program. If finalised, MAM graduates may only need to undertake an additional year of study at UTS to earn their Master of Data Science in Quantitative Finance. This signifies that MAM graduates could potentially obtain two distinct Master's degrees from two reputable universities within two years! We will provide an official announcement once this pathway is confirmed.

In addition to the Master's program pathway, UTS has expressed interest in exploring the articulation of our BSc (Hons) Statistical Data Modelling program. Discussions regarding subject lineups and potential transfer opportunities for UTS students to study at Sunway University are currently underway.

Research Collaboration:

The MoU also lays the groundwork for collaborative research endeavours between our institutions. UTS will consider extending invitations for Sunway University staff to participate in their research seminars online, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Furthermore, both institutions are exploring avenues for sharing research profiles and identifying areas of mutual interest for potential collaboration. UTS has proposed periodic visits by their staff to Sunway University to deliver research seminars and promote collaborative research initiatives.

Additionally, UTS has introduced the possibility of short-term summer visits for students, ranging from two days to a few weeks, providing valuable opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and academic enrichment.

As we move forward with the implementation of these initiatives, we are excited about the potential for meaningful collaboration and academic exchange between Sunway University and the University of Technology Sydney. We look forward to furthering our partnership and creating opportunities for academic excellence and innovation.
